Snowmobile deep into the Chugach Mountain Range to the face of Nelchina Glacier on this one of a kind all day glacier snowmobile adventure. Tours start from the game room of the Eureka Lodge 3 hours north of Anchorage on the Alaska Highway. This is the real Alaska with colder temperatures, wildlife tracks, forested trails and wide open river valleys. Bring warm layers and cold weather gear to supplement our boots and outerwear. Intrepid riders snowmachine 50 miles round trip into Nelchina Valley to the face of Nelchina Glacier on one of our longest day tours. Make your booking well in advance for our preparation and your complete satisfaction.

Accommodation

Alaska offers the full lineup of accommodation to suit world travelers, backpackers and locals. Fine Hotels in Anchorage and the Alyeska Ski Resort in Girdwood provide the highest levels of amenities. Nelchina Glacier tours start at 11 AM to ride during the middle part of the day and to allow drive time from Girdwood, Anchorage or Palmer. Suggestion is to rent an AWD or 4×4 SUV to drive scenicMatanuska Valley during the day and stay a night or two at one or more of these lodges:

Eureka Lodge is a local owned full-service roadhouse style lodge with 6 rooms, restaurant, bar, trophy room and gas station, Eureka is closed Tuesdays. This tour meets at Eureka Lodge located milepost 128 Glenn Highway.
Nelchina Lodge milepost 143.3 Glenn Highway #1 has multiple clean and friendly motel style rooms, real Alaskan.
Sheep Mountain Lodge rents couple and family size log type cabins at winter time rates for group and family value.
Long Rifle Lodgehas a fantastic local restaurant and scenic bar overlooking Matanuska Glacier with crew type motel rooms and affordable cabins.
Matanuska Lodge has 4 luxury lodge rooms or rent the whole lodge with a group of 8 for a deluxe experience.
Majestic Lodge offers high end helicopter skiing and private dining most of the winter season, plan a snowmobile ride with your ski vacation.

All Alaska Snowmachine Tours:

** Adults must accompany riders 15-17 years old.

Passengers and youth aged 10-12 yrs receive a $70 discount (see Book Now button) however we have limited availability of 2 up (rider + passenger) machines and departures for 2 up tours. Bring warm layers, wool sox, small cameras, hats and gloves, sunglasses and sense of adventure. Our snowmobiles are mostly 600 and 900cc 4 stroke and 2 stroke expedition and cross country models. Snowmobiling is inherently dangerous, participants are required to sign a Release of Liability and Indemnity Form. We have outerwear including snow bibs, jackets, boots and helmets. Please provide sizing info when booking online to supplement your outdoor gear requirements. Alaska Snowmobile Tours is a division of Alaska Backcountry Access LLC.

Snowmachining in the Chugach National Forest, Chugach Range and Talkeetna Mountains is under special permit and provides excitement and challenges whether its your first time or you are an experienced snowmobile rider.

What an awesome trip out to Nelchina Glacier! We left from Eureka Lodge (definitely a good breakfast spot) and went 25 miles to Nelchina Glacier. Our guide was great and took the time to make sure we were properly outfitted and comfortable on the snowmachines. We stopped along the way for taking in the beauty, trying out snowmobiling in deep snow, etc. When we arrived at the glacier we were awestruck. It’s glorious out there! The ice tunnel was amazing. Our guide had some great snacks and drinks and we enjoy some time at the glacier before heading back. It was an amazing day!
