Great tour to book for mini-thrill-seeker adventurers like my sons, and safety-first worry warts like Mommy-me. 😉
My sons have done a couple indoor rock walls, but the indoor version totally and utterly pales in comparison to Alaska Backcountry Access’s canyoneering and rappelling!
ABA conveniently transported us from our hotel’s lobby (Alyeska Resort) and geared us up. Before we reached the initial (and steepest) rappel, both boys talked a fairly big game. The elder of my sons (12) eagerly volunteered to be the first boy to go—-and then chickened-out. Cory, a seasoned adventurer and guide, offered to give my elder son a little breather and cleverly suggested my younger son (10) give it a go. Cory somehow knew that the younger-brother competitiveness was just what we needed to get the boys started.
After their first rappel, both boys were hooked. So much so, that they wanted to go all the way back up and do the same rappel again and again!
Only when the boys were told more rappels awaited, could we get them to move onward. We did several rappels and sweetheart Aislinn (our other guide) knew just how to set-up the perfect photo-ops and keep everyone safe. The hike through the boulders, canyon cracks and lush forests was magical. #FernGullyAvatarNeverland
Of course, I had to upload our experience on social media. I mean, come on—Alaskan rappelling through a forest and aside a rushing waterfall!?!?! Too good!!!!! My husband who wasn’t able to join us in Alaska (and who also takes great pride in not having any form of social media), said people would not stop talking to him about my Instagram. He finally used someone else’s phone to see the post and said he too couldn’t stop watching the video.
I hope you get experienced Cory and thoughtful Aislinn as your guides. They made the afternoon especially memorable with their knowledge of the area, stories of the various tours they guide, and inspiring experiences awaiting little mini-adventurers like mine.
THANK YOU Alaska Backcountry Access for creating a childhood memory that will never be forgotten!
