Cross-country ski to the blue ice face of Portage Glacier in this one of a kind Alaskan adventure. Portage Valley traditionally separated the territories of Dena’ina and Alutiiq people, in the late 1800’s gold prospectors traversed it to access claims in Hope and Sunrise along Turnagain Arm. Since 1914 the glacier has made a dramatic retreat around a bend leaving Portage Lake in its wake.

Towering walls of ice await you on the guided trek while dramatic mountains and  glaciers named after poets like Burns and Byron surround you. Chugach National Forest permits allow us unique guided access to this popular region.

We outfit you in comfortable backcountry ski boots, Karhu metal edge cross-country skis or trekking skis for the 6 mile round trip on Portage Lake when ice and weather conditions permit. Our friendly and patient guides share their knowledge of the area and provide transportation from Girdwood.

Price: $159 adult  $139 children 8-12
